Why Online Backup?

Are you at risk of losing data that is important to you?  Your work files?  Your cherished photos?  Your music collection?

For most of you, the answer is a resounding yes.

Every year 43% of computer users lose important data to hard drive crashes, burglary or theft, power spikes and failures, natural disasters, fires, and even accidental deletion.

In my years as a computer consultant I have listened to far too many sobbing wives and mothers, and very disappointed husbands, executives, college students, business owners, etc., explain that they simply “…cannot lose this data.”.  They sit anxious for whatever time it takes us to diagnose their hardware and give them the good news, or the bad news.

We have a saying in this business: There are those who have lost data and those who will.  If you do not backup your data properly you will lose it, it is just a matter of time, count on it.

“OK, so why online backup when I can just burn this stuff to a DVD, or copy it to my external hard drive?”

Consistency and Reliability.

Either you will forget to backup as often you need to, or your local backup plan will fail, or your DVD’s or your external hard drive can be lost, damaged, stolen, or just fail, leaving you without a proper backup of your data.

But your hardware is working just fine, right?  That little voice inside says: “I don’t think my hard drive will fail me today.”

The next morning you sit down at your computer, switch it on, and where the routine boot screens used to be there is only some garbled text saying something about a drive not found, or it simply doesn’t power on at all.

Oops!

What if there was an easy, automatic, and secure way to backup all of your important data to an off-site location?  What if this service could backup your data on a schedule of your choosing, only when you are not actively using your computer, or in real-time (as-you-go)?

I recommend that you use an online backup service to supplement your local backup and recovery plan.

Always have your data in at least two places--at a minimum.  If you have data that you would consider critical then, by all means, have it in two places locally, then send it to an off-site storage service as added protection.

I would wager that you have enough to concern yourself with nowadays—don’t add data loss worries to your day.

In my personal and professional experience, online backup services bring peace of mind, and help prevent heartache for the average computer user.

If you require assistance with choosing the best online backup service for your situation, feel free to contact one of our computer consultants for assistance.  We are always happy to help.
