Mozy 2.0 has been released.

Here are some of the highlights:

For years we technicians have advised our clients to backup their data using a local external hard drive and an online backup service.  We have had great results with this combination and now Mozy 2.0 delivers this tried and true backup plan in their latest innovation named "2xProtect™".

Mozy 2.0's 2xProtect combines the speed and convenience of a local backup with the data protection provided by online backup.  The software will now backup your data to your external hard drive, for example, as well as send your data to a Mozy data center.


This has two clear benefits:

1. Your data will be backed up quickly onto the local drive while you wait (sometimes for days) for your valuable data to be uploaded to Mozy's data centers.
2. If/When you experience a hard drive failure, or some other catastrophic data loss scenario, you can quickly recover using the local backup that you, and Mozy, have created.  This is much better than waiting for a huge download from Mozy to finish.

Mozy states that Mozy 2.0 prepares files up to 75 percent faster and transfer your data up to 25 percent faster.  If this is true, call us tickled pink.  Any improvements in the speed of online backup services are very much welcomed.

Mozy added a "Pause Backup" button to the Status window should the upload ever get in the way of what you are doing.
 

As well, Mozy 2.0's updated Status window now sports a display of the number of files that have been backed up and the number remaining.
